var str = 'The 1895 church sustained extreme damage and destruction during World War II Allied bombing and was left as a reminder of the devastation of 20th century warfare. The remains of the central tower contain original mosaics and items from the church as well as a history of the church. Between 1959-61 Egon Eiermann created a blue-glazed octagonal church on one side and an hexagonal bell tower on the other side. The original church was commissioned by Kaiser Wilhelm II in 1891 to honor his grandfather Kaiser Wilhelm I. The original spire stood 371 feet but only 223 remain today.';
