A small memorial commemorates the location where American colonials and British regular troops first engaged in armed combat and was fired "The Shot Heard Round the World." This began the armed conflict of the American Revolution. There is a marker indicating where the colonials stood their ground and then a larger marker where those who were killed were later interred.

A 221-foot tall obelisk marks the spot in Boston where the American colonials fought the British. The marker and battle actually occurred on Breeds Hill where the marker now stands. The large obelisk can be seen from great distances and is part of the National Park System. There are markers throughout the site indicating the number of units and soldiers who gave their lives.
