This large fifteen-foot tall bronze statue depicts and honors the Airborne troops. Iron Mike represents all airborne troops and depicts an airborne soldier moving forward after having made a jump. The statue was inspired originally by PFC Michael A. Scambellure, an 82nd Airborne Division soldier, who received the Silver Star for his heroic actions in Sicily.

An account of the resource
This gray granite marker honors the 29th Infantry Division for its service during World War II. On the top of the marker is the unit insignia with the words “29 Lets Go”. Inscribed on the memorial is the dedication to the 29th that stormed ashore on Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944 in France and suffered severe casualties. It states that “Our Comrades Lie in Distant Fields. They Gave the Last Full Measure of Their Devotion, Sleep, Comrades, Forever Young. We Salute You. Remember Us.” On the reverse side is inscribed the battles/campaigns in which the 29th participated, the unit awards received including 5 Presidential Unit Citations and battle casualties – 20,327 killed, wounded and missing.

This simple but elegant polished black marble marker that tapers to a point at the top honors the 825 men of the 22nd Infantry Regiment who were lost in fighting in Vietnam. On the top of the marker is inscribed the colorful unit insignia with a map of Vietnam inscribed below it. At the bottom is inscribed the dedication to those who lost their lives. On the back of the memorial are the list of unit awards/citations received as well as the Combat Infantryman’s Badge and the unit patches.

An account of the resource
This red granite marker consists of a replica of the unit insignia with a large ax head which rests on two rectangular bases. On a bronze plaque on the bottom of the base it states the memorial honors the members of the 70th who served with the unit during World War II in France and Germany and especially those who gave their lives. The markers is a replica of a marker erected in France on the 50th anniversary of V.E. Day in 1995.
