Description
An account of the resource
This newest memorial on Ford Island commemorates the USS Oklahoma battleship that was sunk during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The memorial has a beautiful, black granite wall with the name, number and a picture of the USS Oklahoma etched upon it. There are also granite walls that provide information on the ship and its crew. The heart of the memorial is the 429 white marble posts on which the names and ranks of the crewmen who were lost are inscribed; these poignant rows of individual posts magnify the size of the loss.
