Description
An account of the resource
This striking memorial is composed of a rectangular granite base within a brick and concrete circular plaza surrounded by granite benches. The granite base is topped by a very large bronze buffalo. On the base is inscribed the unit insignia and the list of wars in which the 17th has participated from the Civil War to the War in Iraq and the list of Medal of Honor recipients for the unit. On the reverse of the base is inscribed the history of the nickname “The Buffaloes” and states the bronze buffalo was donated by Quinn-Bradlee family in honor of LTG William W. “Buffalo Bill” Quinn who commanded the unit during the Korean War and inspired the unit to adopt the name buffalo.
