Description
An account of the resource
This German language monument honors those German-speaking Texans who opposed slavery and sought to remain loyal to the Union during the Civil War. They hoped to link with Union troops by way of Mexico. However, their Confederate neighbors hunted them down and killed them along the Nueces River in 1862. The bodies were left unburied and the bones were gathered by their fellow German immigrant comrades and buried in this memorial in 1865 with an escort of Federal troops. The twenty foot limestone obelisk weighs over 35,000 pounds. The monument was restored and rededicated in 1996 and includes most of the original stones.

An account of the resource
This simple statue of two life-size figures representing George Washington and Seneca Chief Guyusuta in 1770 sits above the city of Pittsburgh at the end of the Grand View Scenic Byway. The bronze plaque across from the statues provides the history. These two men met first in 1753 when Guyusuta guided Washington to a meeting with the French in which he tried to persuade them to leave the area. This attempt failed and the French and Indian War soon began. The two men met again in 1770 to discuss the future fate of this important region. Although the two men disagreed they parted amicably. The meeting is captured in this sculpture by James A. West and dedicated in 2006.

Description
An account of the resource
This simple but elegant monument honors America’s fighting men. On a white circular stone base sit four bronze statues surrounding a flag pole. A revolutionary soldier stands holding a bugle and the flagstaff, while to his left kneels a Civil War soldier who is holding a sword. To his left stands a crouched Spanish-American War soldier holding his rifle and to his left kneels a sailor with signal flags in his hands. Finally a World War I soldier stands holding his rifle and his left hand on his belt. The monument was sculpted by Donald Curran and when it was originally dedicated in 1931, the memorial honored those from the Danbury area who had fought in the four wars that are represented. Nearby a bronze plaque was added in 1952 to commemorate Danbury World War II veterans.
