var str = 'In 2004 this large Memorial opened to honor the more than 16 million Americans who served in World War II and the more than 400,000 who lost their lives. Entering the Memorial one is greeted with a series of bronze relief panels that tell the story of the war through key scenes and events. A large reflecting pool with fountain sits at the center and is surrounded by large granite columns with bronze wreaths representing each of the states and territories that were part of the nation during the war. Behind the reflecting pool is a wall with 4,048 gold stars that represent the 400,000 plus individuals who lost their lives. On each side of the memorial are victory pavilions for the War in Europe and War in the Pacific. The Memorial sits between the Lincoln and Washington Monuments and is in a low spot of the mall so that its height does not disrupt the view down the mall. ';
