Description
An account of the resource
The site of the most important battle of the US Civil War is preserved and memorialized in a National Military Park at Gettysburg Pennsylvania. Throughout the park are numerous memorials (over 1300) placed at locations of importance and to honor different combatants and military units. About one-quarter of the monuments represent Confederates. The National Park Service maintains the entire Park and Cemetery. The cemetery was dedicated in November 1863; this was the site of President Abraham Lincoln's famous speech the Gettysburg Address.
