This simple gray granite marker outside of the Airborne and Special Operations Museum honors the all-Black 555th Parachute Infantry Battalion whose members received their silver wings in the first half of 1944. This was a “test” unit to see if African-Americans could become Airborne soldiers and prior to the integration of the U.S. Army.
