var str = 'A German POW camp was established southeast of Roswell and prisoners often worked on local farms. In 1943 fifty POWs worked on a flood control project in Roswell along Spring Creek; they laid rocks along the banks. As part of their project the POWs constructed an Iron Cross with DKG 1943 in the center as part of the pattern in the rocks. Initially, local citizens covered the symbol with concrete that has eroded over the years; the symbol is now visible and preserved.';
