The top of the memorial contains in red, blue and gold the national shields of the major components of the British Empire from which troops participated including India, Australia, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand, Newfoundland and the United Kingdom. There is also a ribbon running amongst these shields with the words “Dieu et Mon Droit”. Below is inscribed the commemoration in both English and French. The entire memorial is outlined in a silver and gold braided border.';
