Situated between the Indiana World War Memorial and the American Legion Mall, the Veterans Memorial Plaza centers around a black granite obelisk that topped by a gold plated tip. The obelisk sits in a magnificent round fountain. The plaza was designed for public events and military parades and was originally completely paved; in the Bicentennial Beautification Program of 1975, the area was sodded and trees planted. The obelisk is meant to resemble the Washington Monument; around the base are beautiful bas relief sculptures that represent science, religion, law and education.
